Medical Examination of the candidates in the IAF/Army/Navy as an officer or other ranks
After clearing the required tests i.e written, physical, adaptability or interview , the candidates has to undergo initial medical examination that would be conducted by appropriate recruitment medical authorities. The medical examination process in the IAF/Army/Navy is applicable for all the branches and streams such as officer Cadre through NDA, CDS, AFCAT and enrollment in Indian navy , Soldier in Army, Agniveer, permanent staff “med Asst”, IAF(P) etc. consists of several stages. First, the candidate has to undergo the Initial Medical Examination (IME) conducted by the respective Airmen Selection Board (CASB), in which the detailed analysis of his/her body is done. It includes physical measurement such as height, weight, leg length in case of NDA candidates, TMT if required, chest, body mass index, weight hip ratio, Pathology investigations, vision test, color perception tests, dental checkup, ECG, X-ray tests, Blood Pressure, hearing tests, and other necessary medical investigations. If a candidate is declared to be ‘unfit’ in the Initial medical Examination, he has the right to apply for re-medical examination through Appeal medical board.
Green Card or Red card is given after medical examination process in IAF/Army/Navy
Green card means the candidate is found fit in his/ her medical testing and he/she will wait for his/her final merit list to join the services and Red card means the candidate is declared medically unfit by the recruiting medical authorities due to major/minor disabilities, he has. Further, the candidate should not lose the hope for his selection as it doesn’t effect the merit list of recruitment and even in most of the cases, candidates are declared fit by the concerned specialist during appeal medical board. candidates has been given the time of minimum three weeks for the review in medical board. In many of the cases, time gap may be of one month or more than, if we discuss about the recruitment in the Indian Air Force , the time period for review medical is given minimum of 21 days.
The candidate must apply for the re-medical examination within three days of his / her initial medical examination and he must be knowing that the re-medical examination shall be conducted for the defined disability only. suppose the candidate is declared unfit for the “earwax“ and the red card is being given to him indicating” earwax” should be re-examined for the earwax disability in ENT Department only. The cases like high BP, Excess Heart rate, ECG abnormalities are referred to medical specialist in the designated hospitals.
The fresh medical board is generally conducted at defense service hospitals and the appointment of the president of medical board must not be the same doctor who had unfit the same at initial medical stage. In some cases, the candidates may be asked by the specialist to undergo specific investigations and he will not be given reimbursement for the same. Even all the expenses should be borne by the individual only.
Appeal Medical exam process in the recruitment of Unfit Candidates in IAF/Army/Navy 2024-25
Appeal medical exam process in IAF is started as soon as the candidate receive the red card or unfitness certificate. The following steps are involved in the process:-
Step I
A fee of Rs. 40/- has to be deposited in the Government Treasury in original/ RBI / SBI:-The candidate must visit SBI bank for the MRO stamping. He/She may also apply through e-MRO facilities provided by SBI portal.
Step II :-
Certificate of option to undergo appeal medical board: This includes the application for request to appeal medical authorities and the said certificate shall be provided by the recruitment team.
Step III :–
Photocopies of unfitness certificate: Photocopies of unfitness certificate or red card in case of air force recruitment.
Step IV :-
Decision of Appeal medical board: The Decision of AMB shall be made final and no further appeal for cross examination may be considered. Further, If candidate is not convinced with the decision of Appeal Medical Board may Approach to court for justification.
Validity of Appeal medical exam for unfit candidates in IAF/Army/Navy
During the time of joining the IAF/Army/Navy, a medical inspection is done for all the candidate’s who have reported within 6 months of initial medical examination for routine checkup to find out any obvious disability which the candidate might have developed . The fresh medical may be connected for the candidates who have reported after 6 months of initial medical examination.
